The Fifth Wave
by Rick Yancey

5 stars *****
I give this book five stars because it never got boring to me and the end was really awesome. I think the main character is really interesting and the story is science fiction which is one of my favorite genres
Setting:
This novel takes place in a city which an alien spaceship comes to. Later people get plagued, electricity goes out, and people get taken over by aliens in their mind. It is mostly post apocalyptic where the main character Cassy is alone exploring the world.  The novel takes place over the course of about a year.

Main Characters:
There are two main characters, Cassy and Ben,  who don`t meet until later in the book.

Cassy:

Cassy is the first character we meet. She is a normal teenager who lives at a normal house. She stays like this at the start of the book but later when the aliens come she must change to survive. She becomes a strong girl who is trying to save her brother Sam.

Ben:

We meet Ben later in the book. He is actually one of the aliens but he switches to the humans side. He meets Cassy and starts to like her. They then go together to try and save Sam.

Main Plot Events:

  •  The first big thing that happens is the arrival of the aliens ship. It appears in the sky and stays there for a while.
  • The second event would be the waves. They are big catastrophes the aliens send out to end humanity. The waves are a plague, aliens looking like people, and all electricity going out.
  • The Third event is Cassy being separated from her family. She will do anything it takes to get back to her brother Sam.
  • She meets Ben and they help each other survive during the fifth wave and to go find Sam.

Conflicts:

  • Internal Conflict:
  • Cassy has to decide if she can trust Ben.
  • External Conflict:
  •  Cassy fights aliens and has to survive alone.
  • External Conflict:
  • She is separated from her family and must try and find Sam.
Recommendation:

I would recommend this book to those who like the science fiction genre and books that are about aliens invading. This book was written for young adults.
