Miss. Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
By: Ransom Riggs

5 Stars *****
I gave this book 5 stars because it takes you on a roller coaster ride, it starts out slow and gets better the further you read.

Setting:
Miss. Peregrine's takes place in a small Island on the coast of Wales in 1940, England. But the started out in Florida Present time.

Main Characters:
The main characters in the book are, Jacob, his grandfather Abe, and Miss. Peregrine.

Jacob:
Jacob is the first character in the book. He works for his family's grocery store.

Abe:
Abe is Jacobs grandfather, Abe has always told Jacob about his child and what it was like being an orphan and living on a island with kids with peculiar talents, and abilities.

Miss. Peregrine:
Miss. Peregrine is a lady who takes care of children with peculiar abilities in 1940.

Main Plot:

  • At the beginning of the book, it starts out with Jacob working in one of his family's many stores. Jacob gets a call from his grandfather who sounds panicked saying that the creatures are here for him and he needs the key to his gun safe. Jacob just keeps tell him that his father has it, that nothing is after him, and he will be the after work. When Jacob arrives to his grandfathers house, he discovers that the house is destroyed and the gun safe has marks from where Abe his grandfather has tried to open it. Jacob then walks into the woods behind Abe's house and sees a flashlight on the ground where his grandfather lay half dead.
  • A month later on Jacobs birthday, his aunt gives him a book with the pictures his grandfather used to show him when he was younger, and along with it a letter and picture of Miss. Peregrine. For weeks Jacob has asked to go to Wales with is father, to check out where his grandfather grew up, his dad finally agrees and they go on there way.
Conflicts:
External:
Jacob argues with everyone that he is not crazy for thinking everything his grandfather told him was true.

Internal:
Jacob gets angry with him self, because no one will believe him.

Recommended:
I definitely recommend this book for those who love adventure, history, and pictures to go along with the story.
